Navigating Governance Friction: From Management to Mastery

Our Governance Friction Series - Coming Soon

Governance friction is an inevitable, and sometimes essential. When diverse stakeholders, competing priorities, and complex identities intersect, friction emerges. Traditionally seen as something to be controlled or avoided, governance friction can instead be reframed as an opportunity for insight, growth, and enhanced organisational coherence.

In this series of posts, we’ll explore practical tools and frameworks to identify, manage, and transform governance friction. Our initial focus will delve into the internal mechanisms commonly used in corporate governance, such as codes of conduct, conflict of interest policies, and privacy management processes, to understand how they can more effectively mediate stakeholder tensions and maintain organisational integrity and inclusiveness.

Moving forward, the series will expand to examine the boundaries and contexts where governance friction frequently arises, such as cultural and identity-based expression, competing ethical frameworks, and digital visibility. We’ll also discuss strategies to harness productive friction, those points of tension that drive innovation, inclusion, and ethical reflection, while mitigating friction that is disruptive or unproductive.

By approaching friction not as an obstacle but as a strategic governance resource, we aim to equip boards, executives, and governance professionals with the tools to navigate complexity wisely, fairly, and effectively.

Welcome to the journey towards mastering governance friction
